International Connections
Gold Coast City has a long established international profile which began with the growth in international tourism in the 1960’s. This has been reinforced by major local and international investment in the tourism industry. The steady arrival of overseas immigrants has also strengthened our City’s international links.
The Gold Coast City Council’s Economic Development Branch is responsible for deriving economic and cultural benefits from the Gold Coast's Sister City relationships and international connections.
The role includes responsibilities to:
• Continue to grow the diversity, strengths and quality of Gold Coast’s international connections, with a focus on real opportunities in a range of fields including trade, investment, education and tourism;
• Enhance relationships with active Sister Cities & Global Digital Cities Network (GDCN) members, with an increasing focus on economic development opportunities;
• To promote Gold Coast City as a destination for international businesses;
• Facilitate inbound delegation requests and assist with outbound trade missions; and
• Provide protocol advice to internal and external stakeholders.
The City has strong partnerships with its international networks across the globe and has many successful initiatives through these international connections.
