La Rocca Marble and Granite:
The spreadsheets identified a major weakness in waste management as only paper was recycled. All other waste was bulked into skips and disposed of at landfill. It was difficult to deal with waste stone offcuts. La Roccas engaged a recycler to take stone off cuts separated into a separate skip for collection. This stone is now crushed and on sold as decorative pebbles for landscaping.

- Recycling levels up from 1.3% to 53%
- Diversion of 78 cubic meters per annum from landfill for recycling.
- Water use has been reduced by increased collection, filtering and re use of process water.
- 16% increase in water recycling volumes
- 445 000L now recycled.

Further gains are predicted by installing water tanks to further increase storage capacity.

Lower costs.
La Roccas have saved $7491 off their bottom line by undertaking these initiatives with minimal capital investment. smaller adjustments are also saving the business money. La Roccas have focused on projects that were achievable in a relatively short time period that would also achieve positive return on investment.

Preliminary figures indicate that Superior Plastech have offset rising energy and raw materials costs by over $35000.

Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort and Spa
This business was a finalist in the 2007 SI awards, winner 2006 GCBE awards environment category and achieved third place in Marriott chain sustainability competition worldwide. In 05-06 the Marriott reduced water use by 9%, reduction in electricity use by 7% and Gas 3% for a saving of $63 487. Revised figures for financial year 06-07 saving of 5% electricity 15% Gas and 22% water per visitor.
